Deputy Jason Schwenz
| On 2/13/2001 at 7:45 pm Patrolman Michael Nickerson of the Centreville Police Department responded to 307 Hammond St. for a loud noise complaint. Ptl. Nickerson was backed up by Deputy Jason Schwenz and Trooper Richard Skidmore. Ptl. Nickerson and Deputy Schwenz entered the porch of the suspects home. The suspect refused to open the door and then fired a shot gun through the door striking Deputy Schwenz in the head. The suspect fired again striking Ptl. Nickerson. Trooper Skidmore was able to assist Ptl. Nickerson from the porch and administer aid. The suspect came out of the house unarmed and confronted Trp. Skidmore. Trp. Skidmore was able to apprehend the suspect after a brief scuffle. Ptl. Nickerson was flown to shock trauma and later was pronounced dead. Deputy Schwenz died on the scene. |
Twenty-eight year old Jason Schwenz had been with Queen Anne's
Sheriff's Department for a year and a half before he was killed while
handling a noise complaint with Centerville Officer Michael Nickerson.
He leaves behind his fiancée who he was to marry in September. She is
the daughter of Centreville Police Chief Cohey.
